The Department of Textile and Fashion Design founded in 2001, is one of the first departments in our university.  Considering the increasing importance of design issues in our country, the aim of the Textile and Fashion Design Department is to educate young talent as potential employees for the industry, and to graduate them with the knowhow to create international fashion brands.  Companies are eager to work with young designers who are experienced in producing contemporary designs and who are also capable of expressing their projects and ideas with creative design solutions. As Izmir University of Economics Textile and Fashion Design Department we believe that our graduates can propose designs for related markets with accurate brand strategies, can develop marketing and management strategies and have the capacity to create international fashion brands. At the same time, we are honored to follow the success stories of our graduates. In the 2019-20 academic year, twelve students will graduate from the Fashion Design specialization track. The students developed their graduation collections, coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arzu Vuruşkan, under the broad umbrella of sustainability in fashion. Each student investigated sustainability from different perspectives. Considering the current COVID-19 pandemic, they examined how they would react to the "new" changes developing in all areas of daily life. “Design for change” has never been so “real” for the students. While preparing their graduation collections in relation to sustainability, students were forced to push their boundaries and reevaluate their design identity. Three students will graduate from the Fashion Management specialization track this year, coordinated by Instructor Beliz Günduru, they created their brands within a sustainable fashion framework. They focused on defining the target market, products, pricing, retailing strategy and planning fashion marketing campaigns by combining their creative ideas with fashion management principles in the branding process. On behalf of all the academic and technical staff of the Textile and Fashion Design Department, we would like to congratulate our students on their graduation and wish them success in their upcoming professional life.
